Discover the Wonder Fund-raising Dinner and Auction























Tickets are now on sale for the fourth annual Discover the Wonder fundraiser, an evening of celebration and inspiration in support of A.C. Gilbert’s Discovery Village.
This gala dinner and auction will be held on Friday, February 17, 5:30 p.m. at the Grand Ballroom in downtown Salem. Guests will join Executive Director, Pamela Vorachek as she highlights the museum’s contributions to the Salem community.
In sync with the museum’s mission of ‘encouraging children of all ages to learn and grow through play,’ the Young Magicians group will delight guests with slight-of-hand magic tricks. Live musical entertainment will feature Bill Hughes on guitar as guests enjoy delicious Northwest cuisine by Willaby’s Catering and Event Design.
The silent and live auctions highlight the evening with Master of Ceremonies Angel O’Casio adding his humor and talent to this fun event. Guests will have the opportunity to bid on a fantastic array of unique items including a Golf Package at Salem Golf Club, a 5 night stay in a condo at Seventh Mountain Resort, a Wine Tasting Tour of Ankeny Vineyards, a variety of health and beauty packages, decorative items for the home and much more. (Auction items subject to change and some restrictions may apply).
In addition to the featured presentation, fantastic food and musical entertainment, Discover the Wonder will announce the winners of the “Great Friends to Kids” awards, which honor individuals and business partners who have played a significant role in the past year in helping the museum realize its mission.

Money raised from this event will partially support ACCESS, the museum’s community outreach program designed to give families with limited resources access to the safe, quality learning experiences provided by the children’s museum.

Lunar Calendar New Year Celebration at the Children's Museum!

Saturday, January 21, 1-4 p.m.

Celebrate the New Year with us again! How you ask? Other countries, including China, Korea, Vietnam and Japan celebrate the New Year based on the lunar calendar. We will have cultural crafts representing these countries, plus traditional activities and food samples.
Free with admission.

  • Year of the Dragon Crafts
  • Make your own paper dragon or dragon mask and celebrate the Chinese Zodiac Year of the Dragon.
  • Make traditional Chinese lanterns
  • Chinese New Year coloring pages and activities
  • Create and play the traditional Korean New Year game of Yut
  • Share traditional Vietnamese New Year or "Tet" celebrations, including food, dance, and a traditional song sung by a toddler named Mylee (2:30pm with a dance to follow)
  • Play the traditional Japanese game "Fukuwarui"
  • Sample traditional Chinese food and snacks for the New Year
  • Learn to write your name in Chinese characters

WINTER PLAYSHOPS & CLASSES
Winter Playshop: Art for the Birds
Thursday, January 26, 10 a.m.–noon
Use seeds and a variety of bird-friendly edibles to create garlands and ornaments that our feathered friends will enjoy on cold winter days. Decorate the Village garden with your creations and take home a few for the birds in your yard. Ages 3–5. $14 members/$27 nonmembers.
