Children’s Museum Receives Financial Gift from Marion Cultural Development Corporation

A.C. Gilbert’s Discovery Village received a $2,000.00 grant from the Marion Cultural Development Corporation to update the museum’s Multicultural Discovery Night program. Multicultural Discovery Night is the museum's cultural education program that offers a family-friendly celebration of culture. Designed as an after hours, portable mini-festival, the program provides children at area schools with two hours of interactive learning and fun.
The grant will enable the museum’s Multicultural Discovery Night program to be upgraded to incorporate more relevant, culturally appropriate content and materials. A. C. Gilbert’s Discovery Village also intends to expand the current curriculum to include contemporary cultural practices, in addition to updating the existing historical ones. The grant will allow the museum to develop stronger community partnerships by working in collaboration with local cultural groups, such as Salem Multicultural Institute and The Confederated Tribes of the Grand Ronde.
By utilizing the wealth of local knowledge cultivated through partnerships, the museum will be able to create opportunities for cultural exchange, dialog and community-building. Multicultural Discovery Night, with its ability to reach thousands of area children and their families, will increase awareness of and access to Salem’s rich and diverse cultural heritages.
